Occasional Paper 24: Gaseous biofuels and biofertiliser road map to 2050

This road map shows how we can produce adequate quantities of gaseous biofuels to replace up to 100%[1] of natural gas by 2050 for security of electricity peak generation, business and residential applications, and the production of biofertiliser to replace imported fertiliser. This is based on New Zealand becoming a circular bioeconomy by recycling residual organic material, and expanding food production by regenerative agriculture.

[1] Unless there is extreme difficulty in supply of natural gas it is assumed that there will be a blend of natural and renewable gases. The percentage of renewable gases required will depend on the gas demand market.
